Lumbini Lumbini is the birth place of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace and non-violence. The broken Ashokan Pillar, remnants of an old monastery, images of Buddha's mother Maya Devi, etc. are still preserved in Lumbini. Lumbini is situated 250 km south-west of Kathmandu. It is accessible by road from Kathmandu as well as by air to Bhairahawa, the nearest airport from Lumbini.
